INNERTUBE WATER BASKETBALL

**All rules will be the same as NSAA Official Basketball rules with the following exceptions:

1. Each team will consist of 3 players on the water at one time. No more than two players from the same sex can be on the water at one time.

2. The game is scheduled for 16 minutes (2 eight minute halves). During the final minute, the clock will stop for all fouls and violations. No time-outs will be allowed.

3. A jump ball, consisting of the official tossing the ball between 2 players at center court along the edge of the pool, will start the game. All non-jumpers must be a minimum of 3
feet away from the jumpers. Alternating possession will used for all other jump ball situations (i.e. second half, etc.).

4. There will be no scoring by a team inside the lane closest to their basket. If a team attempts a shot from inside the first lane line, the basket will be disallowed and the ball will be
awarded to the opposing team at that spot.

5. A water dribble consists of a player swimming with the ball between the feet. It signifies possession of the ball. All players must be sitting in their innertubes to play the ball or
any player.

6. Any player being guarded by a player with in 6 feet of him/her can only maintain possession of the ball for 5 seconds. After 5 seconds expire, a violation will be called, the ball
awarded to the opposing team at the closest spot.

7. Players are not allowed to walk along the bottom of the pool while in possession of the ball. This is a violation.

8. It is a technical foul and automatic ejection if a player dunks the ball or grasps the rim. It is a technical foul if a player intentionally splashes water in another player's face. Two
technical fouls will result in ejection from the game.

9. A team may not maintain possession of the ball for more than 30 seconds without attempting a shot. After 30 seconds expire, a violation will be called, the ball awarded to the
opposing team at the closest spot. This rule eliminates the 10 second back court violation and the over and back violation.

10. Free throws will be attempted from the second lane line closest to the basket at which the attempt is being made. On shooting fouls and bonus free throw situations, the player
will get one shot and shooter's team will retain possession of the ball; however, if the field goal attempt was successful, the player will not attempt a free throw but his/her team will
retain possession of the ball.

11. For violations, the opposing team will put the ball in play at the spot of the violation with a throw-in; there must be two passes before a shot may be attempted
(penalty-violation).

12. It will be ruled a violation if the ball is taken underwater by a player.

13. Officials

a. The referee's decision on a question of fact is final. His/her interpretation of the rules during the game is final.

b. In case of accident or injury, at the discretion of the referee, a player may be replaced immediately. Possession is retained by the team having the ball.

c. The referee has the power to order from the water any player for misconduct or for disobeying his/her authority. Should any player refuse to leave the water when so ordered, the
game must be stopped, and the opposing side declared winners. He/she may stop the game at any time if, in his/her opinion, the behavior of the players or spectators, or other
circumstances, prevent the game from being brought to a conclusion.

14.Scoring

Women's field goals count 3 points and men's field goals count 2 points. Free throw shots count 2 points for women and 1 point for men.
